Drones aboard the M.Y. Phoenix locate potential drowning victims

The two Schiebel CAMCOPTER S-100 drones aboard the M.Y. Phoenix are used to locate potential drowning victims. The footage, information and other data gathered during the rescue is shared with the media, the public and authorities if requested. The Rescue Coordination Centre coordinating the operation will use these photos and other data to close case files. MOAS is an NGO that provides Search and Rescue capability in the central Mediterranean and this year we have teamed up with MSF to enhance the post rescue duty of care afforded to rescued persons on board M.Y. Phoenix. Each rescue we conduct is directed by relevant authorities who also direct where to disembark rescued people.

When asked for a comment, MOAS founder Christopher Catrambone said: “We are out here saving lives.”
