Giving Tuesday 2024: How Small Actions Can Create Big Impacts with MOAS

Established in 2012, Giving Tuesday was created to complement the consumerist phenomenon of Black Friday and, more recently, Cyber Monday. The event falls on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving every year and is an opportunity for those who have used the holiday to reflect on the things they have to be thankful for, translate that gratitude into action and donate to participating charities that are supporting vulnerable communities around the world.

MOAS has taken part in this iconic online calendar staple for the past 5 years, creating designated campaigns intended to raise funds for our programming and highlight the needs of the communities we serve. This year, on the 10th anniversary of our humanitarian mission, we have decided to focus on the impact individual donors can make on our operational outcomes. MOAS is a privately funded organisation, and it is because of donors who engage with our content and make donations of any size that we can continue to be present and engaged in areas of political and environmental disaster.

Donating is the simplest way of participating in this International Day of Giving, but certainly there are others. Sharing stories and campaigns from MOAS’ communications output, joining the newsletter, setting up a small fundraising activity, collecting items for donation to a local charity or volunteering your time and skills are all ways of boosting the capacity and reach of organisations you value and respect, and whose work you want to support.

MOAS is currently offering copies of our 10th anniversary commemorative comic book –  “Ten Years of Heroes-The MOAS Chronicles” – and our book “Sirens of Hope”, showcasing humanitarian testimonials from the front line, out various donate mechanisms and opportunities to volunteer and do pro-bono consultancy work with our team. These are just some of the support strategies we’re offering to those who want to join this incredible global initiative.

If you want to support publicly, be sure to tag MOAS in your posts and use the hashtags #GivingTuesday and #GivingTuesday2024, or reach out to our team at [email protected] to get more advice and guidance on how to engage with us more deeply.

Care, consideration, kindness and social responsibility are essential to the health of our international community, and we strongly encourage you all to find ways to do something to engage in the day.

Over the last 10 years, MOAS has rescued and assisted over 200,000 women, children and men through innovative and impactful humanitarian services ranging from Maritime Search and Rescue to Field Hospital management, Emergency Preparedness Response to extensive aid delivery and frontline critical care evacuation from the frontline of the war in Ukraine.

Now, more than ever, in a society that is so outward looking, with online and traditional media bombarding us with information about geopolitical issues daily, it is vital that Civil Society take action and be part of the change they want to see in the world. It is easy to discover organizations of any size, specializing in any possible area of interest or cause that speaks to your heart.

Here at MOAS HQ we urge you to use this Tuesday 3th December, for Giving Tuesday and prove that small actions can, indeed change lives.

We look forward to giving you updates throughout the day tomorrow on all social media and communications channels, so do look out for specific posts that will let you know where we are at, and whether we are reaching our goals.
