MOAS Founder Awarded Cross of Honor for Services in Ukraine

The MOAS emergency medical mission in Ukraine has saved over 60,000 lives since the beginning of the conflict.

Malta, 27th May, 2024. In recognition of the comprehensive and hugely effective work MOAS is doing in Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence awarded the Founder, Christopher Catrambone, a “Cross of Honor.” This accolade recognises those making significant contributions to the provision of assistance for the soldiers during wartime.

Malta-registered humanitarian organization MOAS has been present in Ukraine since February of 2022. During that time, they have implemented several emergency healthcare initiatives, including the evacuation of chronically ill children, the management of a Ronald McDonald House Charity Latvia Mobile Medical Clinic, and the operation of a fleet of 51 emergency vehicles providing trauma response and critical care evacuation on the front lines.

MOAS’s fleet, staffed by 150 Ukrainian medics and drivers, is dedicated to reaching critically injured patients and delivering specialised care during evacuations to comprehensive health facilities to access vital surgical and rehabilitation services. Over 60,000 people have been treated by MOAS services, ranging from civilians isolated from healthcare services to soldiers injured on the front lines.

Earlier this year MOAS published  Sirens of Hope, a book which showcases the testimonials of the local personnel working tirelessly in the MOAS ambulance fleet. A complimentary copy is available for interested members of the press.

Chris Catrambone, MOAS Founder, stated: “Although this commendation is being awarded to me personally, it has been earned by the men and women of our medical teams, who are working to protect human life daily, despite significant personal risk. I am proud that their efforts are so respected and valued.”

MOAS is actively fundraising to support its mission and continues to manage a portfolio of international programs tailored to the specific cultural and contextual needs of a community in crisis.
