To mark its 10th anniversary, the Malta-based international humanitarian organisation Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS) proudly presents its groundbreaking comic book, “Ten Years of Heroes – The MOAS Chronicles,” on November 9th, 12:00-13:00, at Eden Arena, St. Julian’s, during Malta Comic Con, the event dedicated to pop and gaming culture on the island.
For a decade, MOAS has been a beacon of hope, courage, and innovation in the face of global crises. This extraordinary project translates their incredible journey into an emotionally charged comic book, illustrating their missions that have saved over 200,000 lives worldwide.
Vividly illustrated and emotionally compelling, the comic book features art inspired by actual footage and real-life events. Each chapter is crafted by renowned artists, combining visual variety with journalistic realism:
• Mark Sciluna captures the intensity of MOAS’s sea rescue operations, which saved 40,000 lives in three years.
• Ian Richardson portrays the resilience of the Rohingya people in Bangladesh and MOAS’s logistical mastery in empowering their community.
• Julian Mallia depicts MOAS’s bold interventions in Ukraine, spotlighting their life-saving work on the frontlines of the war.
During the presentation, a panel of the three featured artists will discuss with MOAS the creative and emotional challenges of illustrating such poignant stories. Journalist Neil Camilleri will moderate the panel.
The Wicked Comics team, Malta Comic Con organiser, which supported this unique project, will also attend the event.
“Ten Years of Heroes” is more than a comic book—it’s a tribute to courage, innovation, and the relentless spirit of humanitarianism. Over the years, MOAS has not just responded to crises—they’ve redefined how the world tackles them.
Christopher Catrambone, MOAS Founder, shared:
“This comic book doesn’t just tell our story—it embodies our vision for the future of humanitarian action. Every page reflects the dedication, bravery, and resilience of our teams and the people we serve. As readers immerse themselves in these stories, I hope they will be inspired by the transformative power of combining technology, compassion, and action. The next decade will bring even greater challenges but also greater opportunities to save lives and make a difference in the humanitarian world. I invite everyone to join us on this journey by supporting our missions in every possible way”.
Fabio Agius, from Wicked Comics, stated: “It is always a pleasure for us at Wicked Comics to collaborate on projects with different entities. The Moas comic book was something new for us, an intriguing project that I am sure all comic fans will love.”
All participants at the event will receive a free copy of the comic book.
There will also be opportunities to purchase some original artworks from the making of this comic to support MOAS’ life-saving missions worldwide.
