Every day, people living in refugee camps and surrounding communities face immense challenges, from health crises to disaster risks. At MOAS, we go beyond basic aid, offering disaster preparedness training and support for vulnerable populations. Our team of local volunteers is equipped to provide emergency response, strengthening resilience across communities.
Our Impact
Since 2017, MOAS has dedicated itself to providing life-saving aid in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, in response to the humanitarian crisis faced by Rohingya refugees fleeing violence in Myanmar.
In 2017-2018, we operated two primary health facilities, the Aid Stations, in the densely populated areas of Shamlapur and Unchiprang, Cox’s Bazar: they have served over 90,000 patients, with 40% of those treated being children under 18.
Since 2019, through our Disaster Risk Reduction training, we’ve empowered thousands to protect themselves and their families from floods, fires, and other risks threatening their safety and environment.
The Water Safety and Fire Prevention programs are designed to teach refugees and local communities how to respond quickly and efficiently to the risks posed by flooding and fire, using tools specifically designed by our technical experts. So far, we have managed to train more than 12.000 volunteers in Cox’s Bazar.
By addressing the unique problems of this population and vulnerable community members, we’ve helped improve lives and reduce suffering in one of the world’s most densely populated refugee areas.
Filling the Gap
MOAS’s mission in Bangladesh is to identify and address unique, unmet needs. We are among the first to have introduced essential healthcare facilities and disaster preparedness training in Cox’s Bazar. By focusing on critical problem identification, MOAS ensures that every initiative addresses an urgent, previously unfulfilled need. For instance, our early establishment of Aid Stations and the Disaster Risk Reduction programs in flood and fire safety set a precedent in the region.
Our commitment to innovation and responsiveness enables us to pave the way, often setting the standard for how others can meet similar needs. This leadership role requires significant resources to continually refine and expand our services, which your support helps make possible.
Our Local Team
Our team in Bangladesh comprises expert advisors and local trainers who bring an unmatched commitment to our mission. Their dedication and ability to work effectively in a challenging environment make them exceptional at what they do. Even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we adapted quickly, producing and distributing over 800.000 hand-made reusable cotton masks to reduce the spread of the virus in the densely populated camps.
